How we work

We provide information to help you compare, choose and apply for insurance products that we are authorised to arrange online and over the phone. Choosi isn’t an insurer but can provide access to products from our Approved Product List. Sometimes, the comparison may include different products issued by the same insurer and, where this is the case, we will let you know.

Our experienced staff (we like to call them our ‘Team of Choosers’) get a kick out of helping people, and we hold the necessary Australian Financial Services Licence to help you compare, apply and buy insurance from the options Choosi has available in just a few minutes.

We’re paid a commission for products bought through Choosi. Our commission DOESN’T affect the premium you pay for products issued through Choosi, meaning you pay the same price through Choosi as you would if you went direct to the insurer.

We guarantee that when you buy a Life, Income Protection, Funeral or Pet Insurance policy through Choosi, you'll pay the same price as you would if you purchased the product directly through any other authorised distributor of the insurer.

Do my policy premiums go up if I make a claim?

For life, income protection, funeral and pet insurance, your premiums don’t go up as a result of making a claim for products available directly through Choosi. Check the Product Disclosure Statement or Policy Document of the policy you’re interested in for more information about premium pricing.

Am I covered if I have a history of mental illness including depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder or Bipolar Type 2?

You’ll need to declare this when applying for life insurance, and you’ll then need to undergo the underwriting process which will assess whether or not you can be insured.

Am I locked into the policy I choose?

You can cancel your policy at any time. Each policy has a cooling off period (typically 30 days if you bought through Choosi) and if you cancel your policy within the cooling off period, you’ll be refunded the premiums you’ve paid in full unless a claim has been made. If you cancel cover after the cooling off period, generally there’s no refund of premiums.

Can I still get insurance if I’m a diabetic?

You’ll need to declare this when applying for life insurance, and you’ll then need to undergo the underwriting process which will assess whether or not you can be insured.

Can I pay for my insurance through my self-managed super fund?

This option is available with Real Life Cover for SMSF. To make payments, the fund must be the legal owner of the policy – which means the fund also owns any benefit that is paid. Premium payments are taken from the balance of the fund, instead of your post-tax income.
